M. McIntosh - Recent Artwork

My recent paintings include five paintings of rocks done in watercolor and oils. They were inspired by the  jetties, the shoreline and the stone walls surrounding the cottages of Plum Island. I have always been attracted to the shape and texture of rocks. Many years ago I did another series of rock paintings that included rocks on the ocean shore, rocks flying through the air along with beer cans and other trash. I was young then, and I guess I was protesting the trash that clutters our highways. 

 

In this new series I have focused on the beauty of the rocks. I started four of these new paintings as monotypes but developed them further with pastels and oil crayons trying to capture a bit of the natural beauty of the rocks, sand, and water that surrounds me on Plum Island.
