Edward Gerrish Mair
Edward Gerrish Mair, a well-known photographer
and bird watcher in New England, likes to document the seasons of
life on Plum Island and the areas surrounding Newbury, Newburyport,
and Amesbury, MA. He is the author of Personal Computers
for Bird Watchers and numerous magazine articles on birds.
He is a former regional editor for the Hawk Migration Association of
North America and an amateur genealogist.

Plum Island is a barrier beach island connected to Newburyport by a bridge. Here is a meeting place of ocean, sky and earth. Six of the eight miles of this island are preserved as the Parker River Wildlife National Wildlife Refuge. Much of the Island is salt marsh and sand dunes.
